Builds for Malzahar
Abilities
After casting 4 spells, Malzahar summons an uncontrollable Voidling to engage enemy units for 21 seconds. Voidlings have 250 Health and deal 25 physical damage. Voidlings grow after 7 seconds, gaining 50% Damage/Armor, and again after 14 seconds, gaining 100% Attack Speed.
Malzahar opens up two portals to the Void. After a short delay, they fire projectiles that deal 80 / 135 / 190 / 245 / 300 magic damage and silence enemies for 1.4 / 1.8 / 2.2 / 2.6 / 3 seconds. (+80% AP)
Malzahar creates a zone of negative energy for 5 seconds, which damages nearby enemies for 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8% max Health magic damage each second. (+1% AP)
Malzahar infects his target's mind, dealing 80 / 140 / 200 / 260 / 320 magic damage over 4 seconds. If the target dies during this time, the visions pass to a nearby enemy and Malzahar gains 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 Mana. Malzahar's Voidlings are attracted to affected units. (+80% AP)
Malzahar channels the essence of the Void to suppress target champion, dealing 250 / 400 / 550 magic damage over 2.5 seconds. (+130% AP)
How Malzahar plays
Editorial Reading of the kit above, not a sourced claim - the numbers inside it were checked against the client before publishing.
Malzahar plays a patient, oppressive lane and then shuts down a single target completely in a fight. Call of the Void fires from two portals with a short delay, silencing anyone it hits, which makes it deceptively hard to dodge once you're used to the timing. Malefic Visions ticks away at a target over time and, if it kills them, jumps to a nearby enemy while refunding him mana, letting one cast snowball through several targets in a messy fight. Null Zone punishes anyone standing still in a zone with percent health damage, which discourages just tanking his poke. Summon Voidling passively spawns an uncontrollable minion after every fourth spell cast, adding extra pressure to a lane or a skirmish without any additional input from him. Nether Grasp is the reason he's picked specifically into hard-to-kill targets, a channel that fully suppresses one enemy while dealing heavy damage, and there's very little most champions can do about it once it starts.
Counters & matchups
Nether Grasp suppression removes a champion from the fight entirely; mobile assassins reach him before he can channel it.
"In lane" means both champions are played in the same role in Classic; "across the map" represents cross-lane dynamics (e.g. jungler ganks, roaming supports). All matchups evaluated strictly within the 63 Classic launch champions.
