How Shaco plays
Editorial Reading of the kit above, not a sourced claim - the numbers inside it were checked against the client before publishing.
Shaco wins by making sure you're never quite sure what you're looking at. Deceive blinks him to a nearby spot and turns him invisible for several seconds, and his next attack out of that stealth hits much harder, which makes ambushing an isolated target his bread and butter. Jack in the Box goes invisible shortly after being placed and fears anyone who wanders too close, quietly turning brush and jungle paths into places you shouldn't just walk into blind. Two-Shiv Poison adds a passive slow to his attacks while it's off cooldown, along with a thrown version for poke at range. Backstab rewards positioning behind a target with bonus damage, which fits his whole kit of getting somewhere he shouldn't be able to reach. Hallucinate is the trick that defines him late game, a clone that deals real damage and explodes on death, good enough to bait out an ultimate or a full team's attention while the real Shaco does something else entirely.
Counters & matchups
Deceive and box control beat junglers with predictable pathing; armor stackers and duelists who can fight at the camp beat him.
"In lane" means both champions are played in the same role in Classic; "across the map" represents cross-lane dynamics (e.g. jungler ganks, roaming supports). All matchups evaluated strictly within the 63 Classic launch champions.
