How Amumu plays
Editorial Reading of the kit above, not a sourced claim - the numbers inside it were checked against the client before publishing.
Lane bully early, teamfight nuke later, Amumu earns both reputations from the same source: everything he does chips away at resistances or health percentage. Cursed Touch shreds magic resist on every auto, which sets up Bandage Toss into free stun damage, and Despair ticks away at max health so a long lane just isn't fun to be in against him. Tantrum quietly reduces incoming physical damage while also punishing anyone who keeps hitting him, since every hit taken cuts its cooldown further. None of that matters as much as Curse of the Sad Mummy, though. Landing that ultimate on three or four grouped enemies is close to game over on its own, a flat area stun with real damage behind it and barely any way to see it coming if he's played it right. The tradeoff is a long cooldown on that ultimate and almost nothing to do if it whiffs.
Counters & matchups
Curse of the Sad Mummy catches melee carries mid-commit; early-invade junglers beat him because his level-one clear is the slowest here.
"In lane" means both champions are played in the same role in Classic; "across the map" represents cross-lane dynamics (e.g. jungler ganks, roaming supports). All matchups evaluated strictly within the 63 Classic launch champions.
