How Kassadin plays
Editorial Reading of the kit above, not a sourced claim - the numbers inside it were checked against the client before publishing.
Kassadin starts weak and mana-starved and turns into one of the hardest champions in the game to actually kill by the time he's a few levels into his ultimate. Void Stone converts magic damage taken into bonus attack speed, which makes him naturally resistant to exactly the kind of poke that usually keeps assassins in check. Null Sphere silences on top of solid damage, useful both offensively and as an interrupt. Force Pulse charges up from nearby spellcasting, so laning against casters actually feeds his own burst option over time. Riftwalk is his signature spell and his biggest weakness rolled into one: a short cooldown blink that gets more expensive and more damaging with each cast in a short window, which lets him chain several in a row but can also drain his mana bar fast if he's not careful. Nether Blade's passive mana return on hit is what keeps that engine fed in the first place.
Counters & matchups
Magic-damage burst against 30 base magic resist, and Riftwalk leaves any fight he starts losing. Magic resist and hard CC are the counterplay.
"In lane" means both champions are played in the same role in Classic; "across the map" represents cross-lane dynamics (e.g. jungler ganks, roaming supports). All matchups evaluated strictly within the 63 Classic launch champions.
