Builds for Master Yi
Abilities
Master Yi has a 15% to strike twice.
Master Yi leaps across the battlefield striking up to 4 enemies, dealing 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 magic damage to each enemy with a 50% chance to deal 260 / 320 / 380 / 440 / 500 bonus magic damage to minions and monsters. (+100% AP)
Master Yi channels, restoring 200 / 350 / 500 / 650 / 800 Health over 5 seconds. While channeling, Master Yi gains 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 Armor and Magic Resist. (+200% AP)
Passive: Master Yi gains 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 Attack Damage. Active: Master Yi gains 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 Attack Damage for 10 seconds but loses the passive bonus until it comes off of cooldown.
Increases Master Yi's Movement Speed by 40% and Attack Speed by 40 / 60 / 80%, and he becomes immune to all slowing effects for 8 / 10 / 12 seconds. While active, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns (assists reduce half of the base cooldown amount).
How Master Yi plays
Editorial Reading of the kit above, not a sourced claim - the numbers inside it were checked against the client before publishing.
Few champions snowball as literally as Master Yi, someone who starts unremarkable and becomes nearly unkillable the more kills pile up. Alpha Strike hits multiple nearby targets with a brief blink between them, dealing bonus damage against minions and monsters, which makes it excellent both for clearing waves fast and for picking off a squishy target hiding behind them. Wuju Style adds passive attack damage that gets stronger when activated, at the cost of losing the passive bonus while it's on cooldown. Meditate is a strong defensive option, channeling a big heal while gaining bonus resistances, useful for resetting a bad trade. Highlander is what makes him genuinely scary once he's ahead: bonus speed, immunity to slows, and a full cooldown refresh on any kill, which means a fed Master Yi who gets one pick can chain into several more before anyone can react. Double Strike adds a small chance to hit twice on any attack, quietly boosting his damage output the whole game.
Counters & matchups
Highlander resets punish squishy compositions; Rammus and hard CC are the reason he is not simply unbeatable.
"In lane" means both champions are played in the same role in Classic; "across the map" represents cross-lane dynamics (e.g. jungler ganks, roaming supports). All matchups evaluated strictly within the 63 Classic launch champions.

Historical Context & Version
Classic Client State
Patch 3.8 (Classic PBE)Master Yi is in his legendary AP carrying state. Alpha Strike and Meditate both scale heavily with AP, enabling high burst and instant cooldown resets on kills.
- Alpha Strike (Q): Scales with a 1.0 AP ratio, hitting up to 4 targets and granting brief untargetability.
- Meditate (W): Restores health over 5 seconds on a 4.0 AP ratio, with armor and magic resist buffs on top, which makes Yi very hard to kill while he is channeling.
- Highlander (R): Highlander passive resets all other ability cooldowns by 100% on kill or assist, enabling multiple Q and W casts in teamfights.
Era Patch History
Master Yi received a full gameplay update. AP ratios on Q and W were removed or heavily reduced, and Highlander was changed from a 100% reset to a 70% basic cooldown reduction on kills, ending the AP Yi playstyle.
