Before le reworks, before today's polished meta, and long before Tristana became known as just another bot lane marksman, there was one champion making people uninstall after champ select: AP Tristana.
Back in le early days of League, I fell in love with a playstyle that almost nobody else was playing. While everyone else saw Tristana as a traditional AD carry, I saw a tiny blue haired yordle capable of deleting people faster than they could type "report." Everyone built AD. I built Ability Power... and questionable life choices.
I didn't just play AP Tristana. I made her my signature.
While pros would pull her out once in a blue moon, I spammed AP Tristana every chance I got and climbed high ELO making people question Riot's balance team. My Twitch stream became known for one simple strategy:
Rocket Jump. Explosive Shot. Buster Shot. Grey Screen.
Every jump was calculated. Every combo made someone type "balanced" in all chat. Every reset meant someone else was about to have a very bad day.
People thought Tristana was just another ranged carry. I saw a mid lane assassin disguised as an adorable yordle carrying a cannon bigger than she was.

This guide is my love letter to Le French AP Tristana, one of le most unfair, hilarious, and explosive playstyles I've ever created. People say Tristana is squishy. I say dead enemies don't hit back.

PROZ & CONZ
AP Tristana in Season 3 excelled at bursting down squishy champions with an explosive combo. Rocket Jump had excellent AP scaling and reset after kills or assists, allowing quick repositioning. Buster Shot dealt massive finishing damage, while Explosive Shot added reliable poke and healing reduction. Her mobility, snowball potential, and unexpected playstyle made her difficult to predict. When ahead, le enemy surrendered faster than Le French baguette disappears at breakfast. Hon hon hon, magnifique.
AP Tristana relied heavily on landing her full combo, making missed abilities very costly. Most of her damage came in a single burst, leaving limited sustained damage afterward. She struggled against tanks, crowd control, spell shields, and stasis effects. Falling behind delayed her expensive core items and greatly reduced her impact. Poor engages often ended with le sad "omelette du fromage" moment, while le enemy simply said "au revoir" and walked away.
FARMINGZ
Le good AP Tristana knows farming wins games before flashy one-shots. Focus on last-hitting every minion with perfect timing, because missing CS is like dropping your baguette in le river. Use Explosive Shot carefully so you do not accidentally shove le wave unless roaming. Keep le wave near your tower when safe, punish enemies who overextend, and remember: every minion is a tiny croissant delivering gold. Bon appétit, summoner.
When playing Tristana mid, farming is all about patience and good timing. Use your long attack range to safely grab last hits while staying away from enemy poke. Your Explosive Charge helps finish harder minions and clear waves faster when needed. Try not to mindlessly push every wave; control le lane so you can farm safely and set up better trades. Save Rocket Jump for escaping ganks or making smart plays instead of wasting it on every fight. A strong Tristana player focuses on consistent CS, grabbing turret plates, and building a gold lead that turns into huge damage later.
TEAMWORKZ
Le AP Tristana player may be le solo assassin, but even le French cannon needs friends. Communicate before jumping in, because le heroic Rocket Jump can quickly become le biggest baguette disaster of le game. Coordinate with your team to chain crowd control, secure kills, and create resets. Protect your backline, follow le calls, and remember: a fed Tristana with le team behind her is magnifique.
