Guide & Strategy Breakdown
Aura Poke Sona holds a lane together with Aria of Perseverance (W), chips away with Hymn of Valor (Q) and Power Chord, and can stun 5 people at once with Crescendo (R).
Aura Poke Sona holds a lane together with Aria of Perseverance (W), chips away with Hymn of Valor (Q) and Power Chord, and can stun 5 people at once with Crescendo (R).
How it plays
Sona poke wins a lane slowly and then the ultimate wins the game quickly. Power Chord charges her 3rd basic attack with bonus magic damage plus a debuff, either Diminuendo cutting their damage or Tempo slowing them. Crescendo (R) makes every enemy champion in a line dance for 1.5 seconds, which in a Season 3 teamfight is the fight.
What to buy
- Starting Items: Faerie Charm, 2 Sight Wards, 1 Vision Ward, and Health Potions.
- Core Build Rush: Boots of Mobility (roams between lanes quickly to land targeted Hymn of Valor Q + Staccato Power Chord poke combos), Philosopher's Stone (provides the GP10 income, health, and mana sustain), Ruby Sightstone (vision control across river choke points), and Locket of the Iron Solari (Aria of Perseverance W passive grants bonus Armor/MR auras while Locket active grants teamwide shield during engages).
- Situational Options: Flash + Crescendo (R) + Shurelya's Reverie (Flash + Crescendo 5-man dance stun forces enemy team into 1.5 seconds of complete lockdown while Shurelya's speed active ensures team follow-up), Mikael's Crucible, Twin Shadows, and Runic Bulwark.
Summoners and skill order
- Flash (for Flash + Crescendo dance stuns) and Exhaust.
- Max Q (Hymn of Valor) first for bot lane poke dominance. Max W (Aria of Perseverance) second for sustain heals and bonus defensive auras. Max E (Song of Celerity) third.
New to the champion?
Combos worth drilling
- Q-Power Chord Poke: Charge Power Chord to 2 stacks -> Q (Hymn of Valor) -> Auto-attack (Staccato Power Chord) for hard burst poke.
- Flash-Crescendo Dance: Flash -> R (Crescendo) 5-man line dance stun -> W heal -> E speed team out.
Mistakes to avoid
- Don't waste Power Chord on wrong aura: Q Power Chord = extra damage; W Power Chord = 20% enemy damage reduction; E Power Chord = slow. Use W chord on enemy assassins.
- Don't position in front of your ADC: Sona is squishy; poke from behind minion cover.
Playing it out
- Early Game (Levels 1-5): Charge Power Chord to 2 stacks. Step forward, cast Q Hymn of Valor, and immediately auto-attack for a hard Q + Power Chord poke combo.
- Mid Game (Levels 6-11): Look for Flash + Crescendo (R) initiation in river choke points during Dragon fights. Keep W aura active to grant allies bonus Armor/MR.
- Late Game (Levels 12+): Position next to your ADC. Use Staccato (Q) Power Chords for damage or Diminuendo (W) Power Chords to reduce enemy assassin damage by 20%.
