Guide & Strategy Breakdown
AP Barrel Gragas throws Barrel Roll (Q) into a crowd and Explosive Cask (R) into whatever formation the enemy was hoping to keep.
AP Barrel Gragas throws Barrel Roll (Q) into a crowd and Explosive Cask (R) into whatever formation the enemy was hoping to keep.
How it plays
Gragas does burst damage and ruins formations, which in Season 3 is a rare pairing. Happy Hour heals 2% max HP on every cast, so he is hard to poke out of a lane. Drunken Rage (W) gives back mana, up to 18% damage reduction and flat AD all at once. Explosive Cask (R) deals 450 + 100% AP damage and scatters everyone it touches in whatever direction you aimed them.
What to buy
- Starting Items: Doran's Ring and 2 Health Potions.
- Core Build Rush: Sorcerer's Shoes (strips base MR for Body Slam magic damage hits), Deathfire Grasp (cast prior to Body Slam E + Barrel Roll Q to guarantee single-target deletes before enemies can flash), Rabadon's Deathcap (scales Gragas's 1.0 AP ratio Explosive Cask R into a 900+ damage displacement nuke that knocks carries out of position), and Void Staff (cuts through enemy magic resist).
- Situational Options: Athene's Unholy Grail (grants 20% CDR and mana regen, allowing non-stop Q waveclear and W Drunken Rage damage reduction uptime), Zhonya's Hourglass, Abyssal Scepter, and Lich Bane.
Summoners and skill order
- Flash (for E Body Slam + Flash engages) and Ignite.
- Max Q (Barrel Roll) first for waveclear and poke. Max E (Body Slam) second for lower cooldown mobility, slow %, and heavy AP damage. Max W (Drunken Rage) third.

Combos worth drilling
- Barrel Displacement: Q (Barrel Roll) behind target -> R (Explosive Cask) to knock target into your Q barrel -> E (Body Slam) -> Ignite.
- Body Slam Engage: Tap W (Drunken Rage) for damage reduction -> E Body Slam into target -> Auto -> Q barrel explosion.
Mistakes to avoid
- Don't knock low-HP enemies to safety with R: Bad Explosive Casks save enemies. Practice knocking enemies TOWARD your team.
- Don't ignore W Drunken Rage: W grants up to 18% damage reduction and restores mana. Keep it active during trades.
Playing it out
- Early Game (Levels 1-5): Keep W Drunken Rage active for damage reduction and mana regen. Waveclear with Q Barrel Roll and trade with Body Slam (E) when enemies miss skillshots.
- Mid Game (Levels 6-11): Look for Explosive Cask (R) setups to knock enemy midlaners out from under their tower into your Body Slam + DFG + Q burst combo.
- Late Game (Levels 12+): Dissect teamfights with Explosive Cask (R), knocking enemy carries into your team while knocking enemy frontline tanks away.
