Guide & Strategy Breakdown
Hard Utility Blitzcrank is one button and a held breath. Rocket Grab (Q) pulls somebody out of position, and Static Field (R) silences whatever is left standing.
Hard Utility Blitzcrank is one button and a held breath. Rocket Grab (Q) pulls somebody out of position, and Static Field (R) silences whatever is left standing.
How it plays
Blitzcrank changes how the enemy team walks around the map whether or not he lands anything. One Rocket Grab into a Power Fist (E) knockup is a kill, or at minimum two Summoner Spells. Mana Barrier turns whatever mana he has left into an emergency shield.
What to buy
- Starting Items: Faerie Charm, 2 Sight Wards, 1 Vision Ward, and Health Potions for early brush vision control and hook mana.
- Core Build Rush: Boots of Mobility (allows Blitzcrank to roam into fog of war and line up unexpected Rocket Grab Q angles across lanes), Philosopher's Stone (provides passive gold generation while granting HP and mana regen for non-stop hook attempts), Ruby Sightstone (grants the vision control to catch enemies stepping out of minion cover near objective brushes), and Shurelya's Reverie (gives the entire team a 40% movement speed burst, allowing Blitzcrank to run up, knock targets up with Power Fist E, and pull them back with Rocket Grab).
- Situational Options: Locket of the Iron Solari (teamwide shield and MR aura), Frozen Heart (95 Armor, 400 Mana for Mana Barrier passive, 20% CDR), Mikael's Crucible (cleanses CC from allied ADC), and Banshee's Veil (prevents spell interrupts while roaming).
Summoners and skill order
- Flash for Flash + Q or Flash + E surprise hooks. Exhaust to lock down enemy carries in bot lane 2v2s.
- Max Q (Rocket Grab) first to reduce its cooldown and increase burst damage. Max W (Overdrive) second for movement speed roaming. Max E (Power Fist) last.
New to the champion?
Combos worth drilling
- The Catch Combo: Q (Rocket Grab) -> E (Power Fist) knockup -> R (Static Field) silence -> Exhaust. Guarantees 3+ seconds of un-escapable CC.
- Overdrive Charge: Pop W (Overdrive) for movement speed -> walk up and E knockup FIRST -> hold Q for when the target Flashes away.
Mistakes to avoid
- Don't throw Q Rocket Grab blindly: Q has a 20-second cooldown early. If you miss Q, enemy laners will aggressively zone your ADC for the next 20 seconds.
- Don't hook enemy tanks: Hooking Alistar, Amumu, or Malphite into your team will start a fight for the enemy. Always target squishy ADCs and mages.
Playing it out
- Early Game (Levels 1-5): Zone enemy bot laners behind minion waves with the threat of Rocket Grab. Clear enemy lane brushes with Vision Wards.
- Mid Game (Levels 6-11): Buy Boots of Mobility and roam into enemy jungle or mid lane. Pop Shurelya's + Overdrive (W) to run up and E knockup before hooking.
- Late Game (Levels 12+): Sweep vision around Baron pit. Hook high-value targets (AP mage or ADC) into your team to start 5v4 power plays.
